Anything but Mediocrity

Why would you settle for mediocrity when you could have the best? As I’ve stated many times before you can have the best of everything you desire…you just can’t have everything. It amazes me how so many people wait for the so called special days before they begin to celebrate life. The only go to so called fancy restaurants on their birthdays and anniversaries. They only party on the the weekend. The good bottle of wine gathers dust in the wine cellar. Good china remains in the china cabinet until that special day that never arrives.

I really like what Grace Jones says, “I have no competition and no rivals. Everybody’s got their own pace, their own trip. I don’t try to keep up. If you don’t try and keep up, you just sound like yourself, which should sound like the moment.”

Striving for something other than mediocrity is not about trying to keep up with the Jones, it’s about being yourself. The trouble with being yourself is that most of us have no ideal who we are. If we knew who we were we would certainly make different choices in life. We would wake up each morning with an intention of being better than we were yesterday. We would realize that we have been given so much simply by being here that we’d make it our mission to give back abundantly to ourselves and others.

Mediocrity has no reward. Simply by waking up you have achieved the state of mediocrity. Everything that is being done in a mediocre way can be retooled and done in an extraordinary way. Inside the seed of mediocrity is a star waiting to be born. You have been in the bud of mediocrity long enough, now it’s time for you to blossom. What will you become? Anything that you damn well please and you don’t need anyone’s permission to do so.

What seeds of mediocrity have you been sewing and how can you begin to change that today?

That’s my spin on it.

The Mediocrity Principle states….there is nothing special about humans or the Earth. Most of us were brought up by this principle. We were told…ain’t nothing special about you. We were asked….’who do you think you are?’. The Mediocrity Principle was hardwired into our belief system. And because we have yet to re-wire our beliefs, we live mediocre lives. And although we are capable of being, doing and having any and everything we desire, we sit and wait….and wait…and wait….and then we die having lived half-lives.
