Black Coffee

Black Coffee (Your Life)

Imagine  a clear glass and this clear glass represents your world.  Now you pour into this glass some black coffee and this black coffee represents your life.  You have 3 things you can do with this coffee.

Do Nothing

First thing you can do is pour out your coffee.  You can do this literally or metaphorically.  If you do it literally then you die.  You can no longer experience life.  If you do it metaphorically then you essentially live a life of quiet desperation.  Your life is essentially decaying moment by moment.  You are a vegetable.  You are spirituality dead.

Relinquish Control

Second thing you can do is to allow others to add cream to your coffee.  Cream as I use it here is anything that changes the landscape of your coffee (life).  When you allow others to add cream to your coffee you do not get to control what type of cream they add, how often they choose to add the cream nor the quality of the cream.  You essentially wake up each day with no idea of how your coffee will look because you’ve relinquished control of your of how your landscape looks to others.  You are operating on auto pilot.  You never know what you’re going to get.  You have outsourced your cream filling to someone else.

By Design

Third thing you can do is to add your own cream.  This puts you in the driver’s seat.  You get to decide what the landscape of your life will look like.  You get to decide whether you will live in a 900 square foot apartment with no electricity or a mansion on the hill.  Both the cramped up apartment and the mansion lie dormant in your black coffee.  You can add a little cream daily to gradually change the landscape or you can add quite a bit at one time and almost change it overnight.  All change begins with a decision to do so.  It’s your coffee and you can’t think that just because your older that the color will automatically change.  If you add no cream or just a little cream don’t expect the color to change very much.  If you stop adding cream over time just know that when you stop…it stops.

Now that you’ve been given your own cup of delicious black coffee, what are you going to do with it?

That’s my spin on it.
