Climate Change – You Can Make A Difference

by rbenns on October 15, 2009

Climate ChangeToday happens to be Blog Action Day where the blogging community unites and writes about a single topic.  This year’s topic is about climate change.

I once read that if you intend to take on all of the world’s fears you’d better balance it by taking on all the world’s joys.

I’ll have to admit that I am not the world’s biggest Green enthusiast.  However, I’ve learned quite a bit lately about what going green is all about.  Since I don’t come from a fear based reality I am not afraid of destroying the world.  I know that they world can never been destroyed completely.  It may be altered severely as we currently know it but never destroyed.

Therefore the only reason why I think we should care about our environment is because it improves our quality of life on this planet.  I also feel that it’s a small price to pay for having been given so much to experience while here on earth.  There is no substitute for clean air  to breathe and fresh water to drink.

There are many things that affect the climate change we experience.  I think most of us view the whole idea of climate change as the responsibility of someone else.  I think if we each do our parts to help improve our environment each of us can experience a better quality of life.

God doesn’t care either way what you decide to do but if she did here are some things that she’d recommend.

  1. Reduce energy use -Begin to adopt energy saving techniques.  For those of you who are really serious about this then consider building your own solar panel.  In the meantime, just get in the habit of turning off lights when you exit a room and unplug electronic items when not in use.
  2. Transportation – Carpool and take public transportation whenever possible.
  3. Recycle – Recycle all consumer products that you can.  Expose of items such as old printer cartridges and electronics in a responsible and safe manner.  You can even have figurines made out of your old electronic parts.
  4. Plant Trees – Trees soak up carbon from the atmosphere and provide shade.
  5. Washing Clothes - Cool wash and hang dry.  Remember back in the day when we use to hang our clothes on a clothesline?  Well it just so happens that we were being environmentally responsible and didn’t even know it.
  6. Appliances - Purchase appliances with the energy efficient star on it.  Not only do they use less energy but you will be saving on your energy bill as well.
  7. Water Conservation – Don’t leave the water running while brushing your teeth.  Water your grass not your sidewalk.  Only start the shower when you actually plan on getting in it.

That’s spin on it.
