Yesterday I went to Barnes and Noble to pick up a new book. While I was there my eyes were drawn to D-Magazine September issue because of an intriguing headline, “Mico’s Ruin, How Mi Cocina’s founder built and empire and destroyed himself.” For many of you reading this blog the name and restaurant will not mean anything to you. Just hold your horses and stay with me for just a moment because I have a wonderful teaching lesson in it.
On this same day I watched a very inspiring video with Tony Robbins, Frank Kern and John Reese. Most of you have undoubtely heard of Tony Robbins. Well the other two guys are very wealthy Internet marketers. If you’ve got about 38 minutes I’d highly suggest you go here to watch the video. There are some nuggets of wisdom if heeded has the possibility to overhaul your life. The synopsis of the video is how do you get people to take the proper action that will ultimately change their lives for the better.
Prince says life ain’t real funky unless its got that pop. For most of my life I thought that for life to have that pop that It meant me being a flop. I didn’t think that I could be on top and life would still have that pop. I didn’t see a way to combine a funky life (funky being defined as exciting and thrilling) with a pop. (pop being defined as the unexpected joy)
Now after reading the Mico article and watching the Robbins video I’ve discovered that it is very important to be definitive about what one means by pop life. A pop life if not carefully orchestrated can lead to definite ruin.
You can earn $38,000 or $38,000,000 a year and if you don’t have the consciousness that is required you will find yourself penniless in both instances. Infidelity is no more attractive at $38,000,000 than it is at $38,000. In fact, it is far less attractive because there’s a lot more involved when you have to divvy up the larger amounts of money. Drinking excessively is far more dangerous when your rich because it’s far easier to get and it seems to be everywhere. A good friend of mine once said, “Everybody wants the money but they don’t want the consciousness that goes along with it.”
There has rarely ever been a rich lottery winner. Because they lack the consciousness needed to sustain the wealth they always find a way to end up broke again regardless of how much money they won. Nothing in this world is free although it may be disguised as such. The funny thing about a financial ruin is that it’s very subtle. One day you’re riding around in fancy cars, living in a mansion on the hill, smoking expensive cigars, having affairs with the finest of women and the next day you’re drinking yourself into an oblivion sitting in your penthouse watching Citizen Kane, It’s A Wonderful Life and The Godfather.
If you’re resilient you can get it all again. In the video with Tony Robbins, John Reese said that if he lost everything he would have it all back and more within a couple of months. There is light at the end of the tunnel but why play that game with yourself? I’d suggest get your consciousness “right” now so that when you begin to move of the financial ladder you’re able to handle it and remain there.
If I give you one scoop of ice cream now and you walk outside and drop it on the sidewalk please don’t come back and ask me for two scoops. You’re wasting good ice cream.
That’s my spin (pop) on it.
