Face to Face with God (Yourself)

by rbenns on October 22, 2009

I recently read and email from Tyler Perry.  He made two statements that I found intriguing and worth exploring.

The first statement that was made was sent through his brother by his father and went like face to facethis, “If I had beat your ass one more time you probably would have been Barack Obama.”  Tyler Perry’s comment was ” I don’t even know what to do with that.  Sometimes you do have to do anything with what another says..you just have to BE WITH IT.

As I began thinking about his dad’s comments I remembered one thing I read in one of the books from the Conversations with God trilogy, “God sends us nothing but angels, therefore, neither condemn nor judge because the person among you who you considered did the least for you may have done the most for you.”

What if his dad was right?  Not right necessarily in his methodology but right in the results he produced.  What if his dad showed up in his distressing disguise to help create the Tyler Perry we know today?  Yeah, you could argue that he could have chosen another way and you would be right.  But remember if you change one thing everything else has to change.

I also was caused to remember something that I read and have found true in my own life read yet in another book by Neale Donald Walsch entitled “The Little Soul and The Sun.”  I’m paraphrasing here but the jest of it says that at our very core we are all Beings of Light, no one is better and no one is worse.  Sometimes a Being of Light will consciously choose to incarnate in a form that is less than who they are (Tyler’s dad and my dad who I witnessed beat my mother) so that another (perhaps Tyler Perry and myself) can be and express who we are at a most profound level.  The author goes on to say that in these moments you must remember who the “villain” is because they will have forgotten that they too are a Being of Light.  If you don’t remember when they have forgotten everyone will be lost.

I feel honored that Tyler Perry endured what he did as a child so that now more people in the world can heal.  He’s more courageous and powerful than I believe he even knows.  His movies, which continue to dazzle Hollywood skeptics, have brought more healing for millions of people which dwarfs anything that his dad could have done to him.  The funny thing is that we cannot hurt anyone without also inflicting such pain on ourselves because there’s only one.

Another thing Tyler said that I thought would be worthy of exploring was “God is funny; He will make you deal with stuff even when you think you’re over it.  My question is does God make us deal with stuff?  If the answer is “Yes” then why?  Why would God have a vested interest in making us deal with stuff?  I’m not suggesting that I have the answers to these questions but just for the sake of discussion let me tell you what I think.

I do believe that God is funny.  She makes me laugh often when I take the stuff  that is going on in my life seriously.  The belly aches really come when I think I have things all planned out and they don’t go anyway like I planned.  I do not feel that God makes us deal with our stuff.  I think we make ourselves deal with our stuff because our ultimate goal in life is to evolve, grow and transform.  Therefore, our higher self doesn’t get caught up when we begin to feel sorry for ourselves or feel like victims. (God knows that I have played this game way too much).  Our higher self (The Bigger You..maybe this is what Tyler meant by God) knows the ultimate prize and therefore creates the grand scenario where we have the opportunity to consciously awake.  Please notice that I said we are given the opportunity and not that we are made.  We don’t ever have to do a damn thing we don’t want to do.  Keep in mind that because the God in you is persistent it will give you ample opportunities to heal those parts of you that are yearning to be healed.

Thank you Tyler for being an inspiration to me for what one man can accomplish in life even when he’s up against overwhelming odds.

That’s my spin on it.
