I wondered what would happen if I suddenly was bequeathed with one million dollars in cash? Would I become a ghetto millionaire? A ghetto millionaire as I define it is is one with at least one million dollars in cash but still has the mindset, behaviors, attitudes and beliefs of someone who lives in the ghetto. This is not necessarily a physical place but rather a state of consciousness.
You see there’s always a subtext running beneath the persona different from the one we present to the public. Each of us have a modus operandi , a routine for how we show up in life. There are very distinct things that seem to permeate our life situations whether we have lots of money or very little at all. I affectionately call it the ghetto millionaire syndrome. Money is really good at highlighting the areas where we struggle.
Our life has a certain melody but the sounds that we hear appear meaningless. There’s not much for anyone to hold onto so we simply become just another fool with money. We have no real use for more money other than to do what we’ve always done but on a much larger scale.
Life in many ways seems to be very forgiving in that it continues to show us moments of grace. However, people in general are not so forgiving and are quick to write us off forever after one egregious sin. People without money rarely understand how and why people with money are facing the same challenges as we all do.
So I’m not so quick to believe that I need more money. I’m not so sure to think that I can handle more money than I currently have. Sure I paint these rose colored pictures of what I would do if I had more money. This is very easy to do because I don’t have the level of income that I desire.
I think it would behoove me to get my head on right first before I demand additional funds from the universe. There’s a black hole somewhere out there and the misuse of money seems to find it like a heat sinking missile.
That’s my spin on it.
