Recently I posed a question to some people about their most pressing question about God. I received a few intriguing questions but none got my attention more than the one listed in the title of this post. I’m going to make an attempt to answer the question above from my point of view. I view my answer as being neither “right” or “wrong” but rather as my limited view of the world.
One of the most intriguing things about prostitution is that it is not frowned upon in some geographic locations. In one part of the country it is vilified and illegal and in another part of the world it’s not only legal but an acceptable way of life. Therefore, right out the gate there is some discrepancies as to this act of prostitution.
Also before attempting to answer the question I think it would be important to delve deeper into the meaning of the word prostitution. The word denotes two basic meanings. A prostitute can be anyone who engages in sex acts for monetary consideration or other things of value. It can also be used as a verb which means to put something or someone to any unworthy use.
Has God ever fallen in love with a prostitute? No, he hasn’t because he didn’t need to fall in love with one because he never fell out of love. God’s love is unconditional and nonjudgmental.(contrary to most humans) God can only see the divinity in all. God sees the essence of goodness in all even when we disguise ourselves otherwise. There is nothing that exists outside of God. God and the prostitute are one.
Did I rattle a few cages? Probably so. Each of us has prostitution tendencies in us? We may not act on them but they’re there nonetheless. That which we judge owns us. I have come to realize that I am beneath no one and I am above no one. God never forgets that there is only oneness. Whenever we pass judgment on another it is a disowned self. It’s a self that we refused to take a look at within our own person.
Isn’t it funny the more we condemn prostitution the stronger it gets? You’d think we’d have figured it out by now but that’s surely not the case. It is deemed the oldest profession but yet we continue to try and eradicate it. If there were no “johns” there would be no commercial value for prostitutes. We are voting by our actions that we want the prostitutes around on the front end but then we punish and vilify them on the back end. By the same token if there was no scarcity mentality we’d have no reason to prostitute another by treating them unjustly.
I love prostitutes. I love them because at least I know what they are about. I don’t understand their journey and its not my place to do so. I am enthralled with their authenticity. They are certainly not in the closet about their choices. They are willing to take the ridicule from all the “do-gooders” and still persist. I don’t claim to know the journey of a soul. Perhaps they incarnated here to impart to us a bigger lesson than we are aware of.
Has God ever fallen in love with a prostitute? Yes, because when God looks at them the only thing she can see and experience is love.
That’s my spin on it.
