As we look around us and we don’t like what we see we mostly will start trying to change the external view. We start to believe that the cause of our plight is other people. We believe it’s the unruly boss that doesn’t appreciate our work or the mate that doesn’t give us the attention that we need. I have come to know that none of my problems are external to me. There is nothing out there that causes me pain. I’ve tricked myself into believing that this is so but it is in fact untrue. When I believe this, I lose control and I’m simply at the mercy of other people.
I have found out that knowing God is no different. It’s been along time since I’ve believed in a God outside of me. One time I prayed for God to help me and he never came. I thought God had abandoned me until I discovered that I was looking in the wrong place. I soon came to know that the only way that I can bump into God was by going within. Praying to God for anything is essentially saying that I do not already have what I was praying for in the first place. This was not true. I was given everything I needed to make this journey when I was created by God.
You either go within or you go without. I think many us fail to go within because we don’t think we’ll find anything there. On the other hand, many of us don’t go within because we are afraid what we may discover about ourselves. All of life is a process of self-discovery. Know thyself. Also, when you go inside you have to learn to quiet the mind which is often not an easy thing to do, at least for me. When you learn to control your mind you allow the wisdom of your Soul to come through. This is exactly when you bump into God.
We have been conditioned to seek the answers outside of ourselves. When you think about it’s quite ludicrous. If you looked into a mirror and didn’t like what you saw you certainly wouldn’t try and change the mirror. If you were trying to steer a car you wouldn’t get on the outside of the car and try and maneuver the wheels. Similarly, the only way to change you is to go inside and meet the real you.
Although going inside is most often the last place that we look it is the only place that can offer us the salvation that we seek. As long as you’re playing the outside game you deceive yourself by thinking that you’re really making progress. Although you make have some success it will only be fleeting at best. For permanent changes and to accelerate your growth you must go inside and bump into your God-self.
If you knew the inherent wisdom that was within you’d make a mad dash to get there and to remain there for as long as you could. You can continue to believe and pray to a God in the sky and experience only mediocre results or you can access the God within and watch your life soar. If you remain outside you cannot truly know God but if you take the journey within there’s no way that you will not bump into God.
That’s my spin on it.
