I just finished watching the collector’s edition of the movie that was based on The New York Times best seller Conversations With God.
I’d like to list the most important lessons that the author Neale Donald Walsch said he learned from writing the book along with my comments (in red) of what these lessons mean to me.
- We’re all having a conversation with God.
Sometimes I have found it difficult to know when I am hearing the voice of God. I do believe that God is always talking to me but I have moments when I wonder which is the voice of God. Then I remember that any voice that makes me feel less than good is not God. I believe that this ongoing conversation that is occurring is always encouraging me to be my best self. Sometimes it is a quiet whisper and when she really wants me to pay attention it shows up as a loud thump. I am totally convinced that all of us are having an intimate conversation with God. The real question is not whether we are having a conversation but who is really listening? - We are all one.
One of my favorite quotes is “there’s no one else in the room.” What I do for you I do for myself and what I fail to do for you I fail to do for myself. Around every street corner there is only another version of myself. I meet no one but me. This can be a challenging concept for many because once you accept that we are all one you must drop many of the illusions that you currently hold about others. Most importantly, you must drop the illusion that someone else is creating the pain or discomfort you now experience in your life. - There is enough.
Competition is a myth. There is no one that can do it exactly like I do it and deliver it in exactly the way I will choose to deliver it. The it that I refer to can be a conversation, a product, a service, a kiss or a hug. There is a captive audience that waits for my special delivery whenever I choose to step up to the plate. This is my audience, not yours and there is nothing you can do or say to take it from me. You have your own captive audience that I cannot swipe from you no matter how hard I try. God only knows abundance and anytime I find myself experiencing lack I know that I’m out of alignment with Source/God. There is enough of whatever I choose to have without ever depriving anyone else of what they choose to have. - There’s nothing you have to do.
What does it mean to have autonomy? I’m clearly stating that here that I nor you have to do anything at all-EVER. I don’t have to be honest, I don’t have to obey the laws, I don’t have to go to school, I don’t have to be monogamous, I don’t have to do anything to be loved and accepted by God. I never did and you never will. If ther was something I had to do then by all means I would be doing it because I would have no choice. The only reason I would CHOOSE TO do anything at all would be to define, declare and express who I Am. As Neale would say, “every act is an act of self-definition.” Every time I do something I’m in fact defining who I choose to be in that moment. This moment is the only moment there is. I believe that when people are left to their own devices more times than not they will choose the highest version of themselves. - Life proceeds out of your intentions for it.
Life is waiting for me to program it. Unfortunately, most of us are unconsciously programming our lives. This is why we can’t understand why we are getting what we are getting. Life is impartial and doesn’t care whether I program my life to work for my highest good or whether I choose to create utter chaos. Life is an obedient master. Flip Wilson said it best, “what I see is what I get” – no exceptions. I’m at first cause for what I see. - There is no such thing as right and wrong.
Right and wrong is a function of time and space. Everything in life either works for me or doesn’t work for me. The best way to find out if what I’m up to works or not is to clearly define my desired outcome. If there was a such thing as right and wrong who would decide what would fall under the category of each? What would be the criteria for putting one thing in the “right” column and another thing in the “wrong” column? You might say that God is the ultimate authority who gets to decide but again there would have to be some very unreal assumptions put in place. We would have to assume or believe that God Almighty could be hurt, disappointed, damaged, maimed or saddened in some way. This is just not possible for God to feel any of these human emotions that we project onto God. Furthermore, if God who is all knowing knew that he would feel this way in advance wouldn’t he just have put things in place to make this impossible? Everything that happens is what it is and its not what its not. You and I are labeling it not God. - Your life is not about you.
Life is circular. None of these lessons are independent as they all curve back into themselves. In lesson number two I mentioned that we are all one. If we’re all one and my mission in life is assist others to see themselves in the highest light would I not also be giving that gift to myself? Could I take you into the ocean without getting myself wet? My life is about helping you remember who you truly are. My life’s purpose is to touch everyone who I meet in a profound way. If I’ve done my job well then my actions will become viral because that same person will do the same for everyone who they meet. I have found that when I give myself away that I have more of myself to enjoy. - What you resist persists.
What I give my attention to must get stronger. What I face loses its power of me. Power is synonymous with the word energy. Resistance is a form of reverse engineering. When I resist I actually create the situation that I don’t want to happen. Nothing in life is opposing me but my perception about whatever “it” is creates the illusory effect that “it” is the enemy. Reclaim your power and know that the Universe is always conspiring on your behalf to do you good. - Be the source.
If I want more abundance I must cause another to have more abundance. If I want more love I must cause another to experience being loved. Whatever I wish for myself I must cause another to have it because again there’s only one of us in the room. I cannot give away something that I do not possess. Therefore when I cause another to feel loved I find that same love was always residing within. If I ever forget that it is there that other whom I assisted will gladly remind me.
Would would your life be like if you lived as if the above lessons were true? Do you believe it would be better or worse? Do you believe that this planet will be more peaceful or more destructive? Do you believe you will have closer relationships or become more alienated? Do you believe that your power would be harnessed or dissipated?
That’s my spin on it.
