Linger In The Uncomfortableness

by rbenns on November 9, 2009

Linger LongerThe tendency is run, to get away and to avoid anything that is uncomfortable.  Today I’m going to presuppose that the God in you wants you to linger a little longer.

Linger you say Rick?  Yes, linger in the uncomfortableness of your situation regardless of what that situation may be.  In your situation you could be feeling one or several emotions such as stress, pain, irritation, discomfort, anxiety, awkwardness, strain or nervousness.

Why am I suggesting you linger in the uncomfortableness?  I thought you’d never ask.  You must linger because the God in you is communicating with you and there is a message that you need to hear.  Also, if you run now it will only prolong the time in which you get to apply the wisdom that is there for you.  Everywhere you run there the message is – its unavoidable.

Let me give you some examples to make this abundantly clear.  If you’re having a migraine headache the first thing we tend to do is get relief.  We want  the pain to go away so we seek out some type of medicine.  I’m going to invite you to linger a little longer in the pain because your body’s wisdom has a message for you.  Perhaps the message is that your diet is not proper.  Perhaps the message is that you are internalizing too much stress.  Perhaps the invitation is for you to worry less.  If you immediately seek to alleviate the pain you will not hear the wisdom that is there for you.

Here’s another example.  Your house is about to be foreclosed on.  You immediately seek out help from family members to front you the money so that you can cure the default.  I’m going to ask you to linger a little longer in the uncomfortableness of the thought of be ousted from your home.  There is a message here for you.  Perhaps the message is saying that you don’t manage your money wisely.  Perhaps the message is telling you to prepare for rainy days.  Perhaps the message is suggesting to you that you are living far beyond your means.  Perhaps the message is telling you that you need to enroll in a money 101 class.  Be still and hear the message.  Bask in the uncomfortableness of those feelings.

The God in you never gives you more than you can handle.  To me handling something means getting the message as not to repeat it again and again.  There are so many things that you could be doing with your life and constantly repeating the same lessons is not the best use of your time.  Ask me how I know this?

That’s my spin on it.
