There are many lessons from we can learn from the present state of the economy. While most prefer and are conditioned to look for the missing tile (things that are not working) I prefer to look at the gifts that it has brought to us all.
If you’re are married or in a partnership I’d venture to say that both of you are probably working on your job or in your business full time. It appears that the days of a single income being enough to support a family have long since gone. If one income is lost or downsized many families experience serious financial ruin.
This is known as the bubble theory. The bubble theory states that those who fail to create multiple pillars of income increase the probability and likelihood that they will experience some type of financial strain in the very near future. Many of you have undoubtedly experienced that or know someone who has.
So one of the main gifts that the so called recession has given me is the nudge to always be creating multiple pillars of income. The Parthenon Effect is the insight and forethought that allows any single person or couple to proactively create at least 2 to 3 additional pillars of income not including their present job or business.
The Parthenon Effect’s optimal number of pillars is four with three being not bad and two being better than one. It’s great if the pillars can be related to what you currently love to do, have a passion for or some area that you are an expert in. The Parthenon Effect also states that if one pillar is lost for whatever reason then the party must immediately look to replace, repair or re-purpose that lost pillar of income.
Just like the pillars have held up the ancient buildings of Rome and Greece for centuries so will the pillars support you to be able to whether the storms when they come. Just so you know there is not a question of if storms will come but when they will come.
For example my multiple pillars of income are real estate investing specifically residential and transitioning into commercial. Other pillars of income are building and create niche websites in many different industries. Also to be released in the first quarter of 2010 is my first membership site. I’m always on the look out for more pillars to add. One of the criterion that I have set up for myself is to do the work once and get paid forever. At least that’s the goal and if it doesn’t last forever then to get paid from it for as long as it lasts after having done the work once.
You may not choose this criteria for yourself but whatever you do start now to add additional pillars of income. Any type of home based business is a good idea. I like network marketing as long as you get with a company that’s proven and your Upline is supportive and understands attraction marketing and how to market via the Internet as well as offline.
You could also learn how to start your own blog and monetize it. You could build Adsense niche websites on free Blogger blogs. You could make money writing on HubPages for other people. You could start a brick and mortar business and build a loyal following through social media such as Facebook and Twitter. You could start an advice column in an area that you’re passionate about or have some expertise. You could start a video blog and talk about any topic that you’re passionate about. For more on how to do this I’d suggest you pick up this book and read it this week. Crush It by Gary Vaynerchuk.
That’s my spin on it.
