The Power Of Tithing – The Lord’s Law

by rbenns on November 13, 2009

Power of TithingI could have just as easily labeled the title of this post “Leveraging The Universe.”  When you begin to understand the power of tithing and also begin to implement it you will undoubtedly leverage the Universe.

I have to admit I don’t truly understand how and why tithing works, I just know that it does.  I have come to realize that understanding something is not a prerequisite for applying it.  It works so I use it and I don’t question why or how.

I think God was being generous when she asks for only 10% when the customary gratuity in restaurants is 15%.  Now I’m not so naive as to think that God needs money.  I’m also don’t believe that God requires us to give anything at all.  I feel that something much deeper is taking place in the ether when we tithe.

Tithing to me is a way of saying thanks for what I have been given and it creates a spiritual pathway for me to receive more.  Tithing is a way to delve deeper into the art of abundance.  It allows me to experience that is plenty of everything including money.  Tithing is intimacy with God.   Tithing is a breakthrough to God.

Imagine you just received $1,000 and let’s assume that you believe in the power of tithing.  Let’s also assume that you have some past due notices on some bills that you have yet to pay.  You are now left with the dilemma of trying to decide if you should title 10% of your recently acquired $1,000 or use the money to pay bills.  What do you do?

Scenario A – You could rationalize to yourself that you’ve got to get those bills paid so you forgo tithing the 10% and you pay your bills with most of the money and you spend the rest on yourself.

Scenario B – You could title the 10%, pay some on your bills and spend the rest of yourself.

Which scenario is the best?  I define best by what works for you in the long run.  To me scenario B is the best because you have honored your commitment to a higher power which trumps all else.  I’ve tried scenario A and it bites me in the ass every single time.

Now I have made it a personal practice to give away at least 10% of my earnings.  It’s been easy for me to tithe 10% when I earn $1,000 but when I earn a $10,000 payday I balk when it comes to tithing.  I don’t trust the process.  I seem to doubt that I can beat God giving.  Each time I do this the money still gets away from me in some manner.  Something around the house breaks down ($350), the car is in need of repair ($375), I get a traffic ticket ($125) etc.  I end of losing more money by not giving than I do by giving.

Am I suggesting that I’m giving to get?  No, I’m tithing for an appreciation of what has flowed into my life.  It’s amazing how much farther the 90% goes when you first give away the 10%.

Some people assert they will give once they have more but they will never have more until they first give.  Also, does it make logical since to think that if you’re now earning $30,000 and you’re not tithing at least 10% that you will start to do so if your money should double? It ain’t happening and you know it.

Be a cheerful giver and I can assure you that you will have the right combination to open up your money vault and more.  Also make sure your tithes go to your church or place of spiritual sustenance.

That’s my spin on it.

  • What you wrote is not Biblical. The Lord's tithe was NEVER commanded on anything that man made or earned. It was ONLY commanded on the increase of the land (crops) and animals in herds and flocks, and ONLY on the crops and animals raised in the Holy Land (see Leviticus 27:30-33). Tithing ended at the cross (see Hebrews 7:18). God defined His tithe in Leviticus 27:30-33 and then gave the law in Numbers 18. God said the tithe was to be taken to the Levites, FOREVER. God never changed that command to allow a Christian Church to accept His tithe. Hebrews 7:18 tells us that Numbers 18 was disannulled. I believe those who continued to teach and collect the tithe are involved in the largest scam/fraud this country has ever seen. Learn what the Bible really says about the tithe at www.TithingToday.com, or get the book, as a FREE download, at www.TithingBook.info. Compare God's Word with what you are taught in church and you will be shocked as I was.

In the New Testament, we are to give generously, according to our means. We are blessed when we give, NOT tithe. To use the word tithe in today's Christian Church is wrong because it infers the Biblical tithe. The Biblical tithe was PAID, not given, and was REQUIRED by command/law, not from the heart. We are under a better covenant of grace giving.
  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this post. Just yesterday, I attended church service AND gave my tithe. It's been quite some time since doing so. Tithing is a concept that I have known about for years. In all of my 'giving', I somehow 'forgot' to give God. I agree that God doesn't need my money. However, I believe that giving 10% of what I earn is the best investment I could ever make.
