The competition aspect of martial arts training is the least important aspect of martial arts. The tournament competition is really of no consequence. In all sports the playing field is for those that are most physically gifted and talented. Tournament competition are held to display the talents of the most physically gifted. The kids who need to participate are normally the “weakest” and the least gifted. They are the so called bench warmers. Do you personally know the name of any bench warmer? These are normally the kids that are outcast and they need to have a platform in which they can develop. Our society is as strong as the weakest link. In martial arts every single kid no matter how gifted gets to participate. If the practice in martial arts was to not allow the so call weak and less talented kids to practice you would destroy his spirit.
Martial arts is not about punching someone’s lights out. Martial arts is 80% spiritual/mental and about 20% physical. In essence martial arts is spiritual self help. When all that you rely on is the physical talent and it doesn’t work you have nothing to fall back on. There is another realm to ascend to when the physical no longer works and very few remember to harness its power–the spiritual. In the realm of the spiritual there are no bounds, no limits–just a world of unlimited possibilities.
When you think you’re alone you’re not. When you think that something can’t be done you’re wrong. When you think you know it all you don’t. Is your cup empty?
That’s my spin on it.
